FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LEO GABIN
March 5 - April 20 2013
Opening Reception: March 5, 6-8PM
Leo Gabin is a dynamic collaborative entity that samples, edits and augments American
culture, inspired by the contradictions and creative potential of the Internet as a medium.
The gallery is pleased to present the first US solo show of Leo Gabin videos and
paintings, which will open on March 5th, 2013 with a reception for the artist from 6-8PM.
Leo Gabin will be featured at Independent, which takes place from March 7th through
the 10th.
As user-generated content has become a core part of American culture in the preceding
decade, ceaseless proliferation of socially shared footage posted on the Internet has
provided a rich, fertile source of inspiration for Leo Gabin’s inventive 21st Century
practice. The status of authorship itself has evolved and occupied various manifestations
and associations, influencing and evolving how collective authorships operate within
creative ecosystems.
Leo Gabin (Lieven Deconinck, Gaëtan Begerem and Robin De Vooght) have worked
exclusively as a collective since 2000. They live and work in Ghent, Belgium and
received degrees from the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Ghent. Leo Gabin has
participated in exhibitions internationally, such as: Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt, Peres
Projects, Berlin, Center for Contemporary Art, Bruges, and Catherine Bastide, Brussels,
among others.
